Valve Cover: Service and Repair
1. Deactivate audio anti-theft function, as outlined under Technician Safety Information, before disconnecting battery.2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove righthand front wheel.
4. Remove splash shield, then the drive belts and pulley shield.
5. Remove power steering pump with hoses connected and support away from engine.
6. Remove water pump pulley.
7. Hold crankshaft pulley with special holder coupling flange tool Nos. 49S120710, 49E0111A1 and 49E011101, or equivalents, and loosen crankshaft pulley bolt.
8. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and pulley, then the guide plate.
9. Remove high tension leads and spark plugs.
10. Remove valve cover bolts, then the cover.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply silicone sealant to cylinder head shaded areas, Fig. 7.

b. Tighten cylinder head cover bolts to 5.9 - 7.8 Nm (53 - 69 in.lbs) in five or six steps in order, Fig. 8.
