Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
1. Prior to disconnecting battery ground cable, deactivate audio system anti-theft, if equipped, refer to Accessories and Optional Equipment/Radio, Stereo, and Compact Disc/Service and Repair.2. Disarm airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
3. Remove knee protector, then disconnect clock spring and combination switch electrical connectors.
4. Remove attaching nuts and disconnect air bag module. Do not strike steering shaft with a hammer, shaft may collapse.
5. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
6. Using a suitable puller, remove steering wheel.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Set front wheels in a straight ahead position.
b. Turn clock spring connector clockwise until it stops. Do not force it.
c. Turn clock spring connector counterclockwise 2 and 3/4 turns.
d. Align marks on clock spring connector and outer housing.
e. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 29-36 ft. lbs.
