Dashpot: Description and Operation

Dashpot:

PURPOSE
Prevent throttle from suddenly closing completely when throttle is released and causing an over-rich condition.

LOCATION
On throttle body.

OPERATION
When the throttle is open, spring pressure extends the dashpot. When the throttle closes, it first comes to rest on the dashpot, which lets the throttle close slowly the rest of the way as air is forced out of the chamber through the orifice.

CONSTRUCTION
Consists of a spring and diaphragm chamber with a small orifice open to the atmosphere.
