W/Engine Speed Sensing Power Steering

1. Drain steering gear oil and install steering gear and linkage in suitable vise.
2. Remove oil pressure switch and the oil pipes, Fig. 21.
3. Scribe alignment marks on tie rod ends and tie rods, then remove tie rod ends with locknuts.
4. Remove spring clips, boot wires and boots.
5. Remove tie rod from rack, then remove roll pin with pin punch and hammer.
6. Remove locknut from adjust cover and, using tool 49H032321A or equivalent, the adjust cover, then the spring and pressure pad.
7. Remove snap ring, then cut away staked areas with drill and remove housing cover.
8. Remove locknut, then set gear housing assembly on a press and remove pinion shaft assembly.
9. Remove oil seal and upper bearing, then cut away staked areas with a drill and remove rack bushing.
10. Slide tool 49G032305 or equivalent over rack from gear housing side.
11. Install tool 49G032306 or equivalent to threaded part of rack at tube side, then, using tool 49G032307 or equivalent, remove oil seal at tube side while pulling out rack.
12. Insert tool 49G032302 or equivalent from pinion housing side so that it contacts spacer.
13. Set tool 49F032303 or equivalent against tool inserted in previous step.
14. Secure gear housing in suitable vise.
15. Drive spacer and oil seal out of housing.
16. Using tool 49G032303 or equivalent, drive lower bearing out of housing.
17. Insert tool 49G032301 or equivalent so that it contacts needle bearing, then, using tool 49G032301 or equivalent, drive out oil seal and needle bearing and remove O-ring.
18. Remove mounting brackets and bushings.
