Dashpot: Description and Operation
Dashpot:
Dashpot:
The dashpot, located on the throttle body, prevents the throttle from suddenly closing completely and causing an over-rich condition, when the accelerator is released. It consists of a diaphragm and light spring in a chamber with a small orifice open to the atmosphere. When the throttle is open, spring pressure extends the dashpot. When the throttle closes, it first comes to rest on the dashpot, which lets the throttle close slowly the rest of the way as air is forced out of the chamber through the orifice.
