Dashpot: Description and Operation

Dashpot:

Dashpot:

The dashpot, located on the throttle body, prevents the throttle from suddenly closing completely and causing an over-rich condition when the accelerator is released. It consists of a diaphragm chamber with a small orifice open to the atmosphere, and light spring. When the throttle is open, spring pressure extends the dashpot. When the throttle closes, it first comes to rest on the dashpot, which lets the throttle close slowly as air is forced out of the chamber through the orifice.
