Oil Pan: Service and Repair

1. Deactivate Airbag system, if equipped, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle and drain engine oil.
3. Remove engine under cover, then the oil pan attaching bolts.
4. Insert suitable tool between oil pan and cylinder block to separate them, then remove oil pan. Do not bend oil pan.
5. Remove any dirt or other material from contact surfaces.
6. On oil pans with gasket, apply suitable sealant as shown, Fig. 36.
7. On oil pans without gasket, apply suitable sealant in continuous bead to oil pan around inside of bolt holes with ends overlapping. Do not apply sealant to both cylinder block and oil pan.
8. Install oil pan, torquing bolts to specification.
9. Install engine under cover.
10. Fill crankcase, then start engine and check for leaks.
