W/Electronically Controlled Power Steering

1. Install outer box in rack housing. Coat seals and O-rings with transmission fluid.
2. Protect outer box with a cloth and tighten it with a pipe wrench.
3. Stake between outer box and the rack housing with a center punch.
4. Using suitable pipe, install oil seal.
5. Install pressure pad and spring in gear housing.
6. Apply thread sealant to threads of adjust cover.
7. Install adjust cover to gear housing, torquing to 39-48 inch lbs., then loosen it 35°.
8. Using tool 490180510B or equivalent, and a pull scale, measure pinion torque.
9. If pull scale does not read 35.3-49.4 ounces, readjust adjust cover.
10. Set rack in vise and install washer, then torque tie rod to 43-58 ft. lbs.
11. Stake washer in two places with a punch.
12. Install boot and wrap new wire around it two times, then twist 4 or 4-1/2 times. Ensure boot is not twisted or dented.
13. Align match marks and install tie rod ends.
14. Install solenoid valve and pressure switch.
15. Install oil pipes.
