Exhaust System Temperature Indicator: Testing and Inspection

Circuit Test
1. Turn the ignition on. The heat hazard warning light comes on.
2. Start the engine the warning light should go off Fig. 13,.

3. Disconnect the sensor, Fig. 7, make sure the warning light comes on when a jumper wire is connected to both terminals of the connector.

Sensor test
1. Remove sensor, then wrap sensor and a thermometer with aluminum foil and place into a suitable container filled with oil.
2. Connect battery voltage and test lamp to the electrical connector sensor terminals.
3. Using a suitable heater, gradually heat the oil. Test lamp should illuminate when oil temperature is between 221-239°F (105-115°C). Do not exceed 302°F (150°C).
4. If sensor does not operate within specified limit, replace heat hazard sensor.
