Oil Seal (Differential) Replacement





OIL SEAL (DIFFERENTIAL) REPLACEMENT [AY6A-EL, AY6AX-EL]

Transaxle Case Side

1. Drain the ATF. Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Replacement

2. Remove the front splash shield (LH). Service and Repair

3. Disconnect the drive shaft (LH) from the transaxle. Front Drive Shaft Removal/Installation

4. Remove the oil seal lip using a utility knife.

5. Remove and discard the oil seal using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.






CAUTION:
- Do not damage the transaxle case.
- Do not damage the differential case.

6. Using the SST and a hammer, tap a new oil seal so that the specified oil seal position is obtained.






CAUTION:
- Do not damage the oil seal.

7. Install the drive shaft (LH) to the transaxle. Front Drive Shaft Removal/Installation

8. Install the front splash shield (LH). Service and Repair

9. Add ATF. Adjustments

10. Adjust the ATF level. Adjustments

11. Perform the "Mechanical System Test". Mechanical System Test

Converter Housing Side (2WD)

1. Drain the ATF. Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Replacement

2. Remove the front splash shield (RH). Service and Repair

3. Disconnect the drive shaft (RH) from the joint shaft. Front Drive Shaft Removal/Installation

4. Remove the joint shaft. Joint Shaft Removal/Installation

5. Remove the oil seal lip using a utility knife.

6. Remove and discard the oil seal using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.






CAUTION:
- Do not damage the converter housing.
- Do not damage the differential case.

7. Using the SST and a hammer, tap a new oil seal so that the specified oil seal position is obtained.

- Do not damage the oil seal.

8. Install the joint shaft. Joint Shaft Removal/Installation

9. Install the drive shaft (RH) to the joint shaft. Front Drive Shaft Removal/Installation

10. Install the front splash shield (RH). Service and Repair

11. Add ATF. Adjustments

12. Adjust the ATF level. Adjustments

13. Perform the "Mechanical System Test". Mechanical System Test

Converter Housing Side (AWD)

1. Drain the ATF. Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) Replacement

2. Remove the transaxle. Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation

3. Remove the torque converter. Service and Repair

4. Remove the converter housing. Converter Housing Removal/Installation

5. Remove and discard the oil seal using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.






CAUTION:
- Do not damage the converter housing.

6. Using the SST and a hammer, tap a new oil seal so that the specified oil seal position is obtained.






CAUTION:
- Do not damage the oil seal.

7. Install the converter housing. Converter Housing Removal/Installation

8. Install the torque converter. Service and Repair

9. Install the transaxle. Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation

10. Add ATF. Adjustments

11. Adjust the ATF level. Adjustments

12. Perform the "Mechanical System Test". Mechanical System Test
