Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Seal Installation
POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) SEAL INSTALLATION
1. Using the Driven Gear Oil Seal Installer, install the inner input seal.
NOTE:Make sure not to roll the inner input seal sealing lip when installing the drive gear.
2. Install the helical gears.
a. Install the drive gear. Use a slight rotation to prevent damaging the inner input seal.
b. Install the idler gear.
c. Install the driven gear.
NOTE:The PTU cover and case sealing surfaces must be free of oil before applying new sealant.
3. Apply a 3 mm (0.11 in) bead of silicone sealant to the sealing surface of the PTU cover. Install the PTU cover and tighten the 12 PTU cover bolts in a star pattern.
- Tighten to 32 Nm {3.2 kgf-m, 24 ft-lbf}.
4. Install the PTU vent tube and the bolt.
- Tighten to 14 Nm {1.4 kgf-m, 124 in-lbf}.
5. Using the Handle and PTO Driven Gear Oil Seal Installer, install the intermediate shaft seal.
