Transaxle Installation




TRANSAXLE - 2.5L INSTALLATION

Installation

All vehicles





NOTE:Carry out the transmission fluid cooler backflushing and cleaning if the transaxle is being overhauled or if installing a new or remanufactured transaxle. See - Service and Repair.
NOTE:Carry out the transmission fluid cooler flow test if the transaxle is being overhauled or if installing a new or remanufactured transaxle. See - Service and Repair.
1. Position the transaxle into the engine compartment.





2. Remove the Torque Converter Retainer.





3. Install the 4 torque converter housing bolts.

- Tighten to 48 Nm {4.8 kgf-m, 35 ft-lbf}.





4. Install the 3 torque converter housing bolts.

- Tighten to 48 Nm {4.8 kgf-m, 35 ft-lbf}.





5. Using the Engine Support Bar and Adapters, raise the transaxle until the transaxle support insulator bracket lines up with the transaxle support insulator and install the through bolt.

- Tighten to 103 Nm {10.3 kgf-m, 76 ft-lbf}.





6. Position the transaxle support insulator bracket in place and install the 4 nuts.

- Tighten to 40 Nm {4.0 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}.





7. Remove the Engine Support Bar and Adapters.





8. Install the 4 new torque converter nuts.


- Tighten to 40 Nm {4.0 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}.





9. Install the starter motor isolator.

10. Install the starter motor. See - Service and Repair.





11. Connect the TSS sensor electrical connector.





12. Connect the transaxle electrical connector.





13. Position the transmission fluid cooler tubes in place. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes in the transaxle by inserting the tube into the fitting until a click is heard/felt. Pull back to confirm connection is secure and install the secondary latches.

Front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles





1. Install the dampener and the 3 dampener bolts, 2 from the RH side of the transaxle and 1 from the LH side.

- Tighten to 40 Nm {4.0 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}.

All wheel drive (AWD) vehicles





1. Install the power transfer unit (PTU) and install the bolt.

- Tighten to 70 Nm {7.0 kgf-m, 52 ft-lbf}.





2. Install the PTU bolts.

- Tighten to 70 Nm {7.0 kgf-m, 52 ft-lbf}.

NOTE:Exhaust removed for clarity.






3. Install the PTU bracket and the 2 PTU bracket bolts.

- Tighten to 45 Nm {4.5 kgf-m, 33 ft-lbf}.





4. Install the PTU bracket-to-engine bolt.

- Tighten to 40 Nm {4.0 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}.





5. Install the 4 PTU bracket-to-engine bolts.

- Tighten to 40 Nm {4.0 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}.





6. Install the 2 catalytic converter support bracket bolts.

- Tighten to 20 Nm {2.0 kgf-m, 177 in-lbf}.

All vehicles





1. Install the front mount bracket and 3 nuts.

- Tighten to 55 Nm {5.5 kgf-m, 41 ft-lbf}.





2. Install the engine support cross brace and new cross brace nut.

- Tighten to 175 Nm {17.8 kgf-m, 129 ft-lbf}.





3. Install the 2 bolts for the cross brace and the front roll restrictor bolt.

- Tighten the cross brace bolts to 90 Nm {9.0 kgf-m, 66 ft-lbf}.
- Tighten the lower support insulator through bolt to 115 Nm {11.5 kgf-m, 85 ft-lbf}.





4. Install the rear cross brace and the 4 bolts.

- Tighten to 115 Nm {11.5 kgf-m, 85 ft-lbf}.

5. Install the LH halfshaft and the RH halfshaft. See Front Drive Halfshafts Removal/Installation.

AWD vehicles





1. Position the driveshaft to the PTU and install the 6 driveshaft bolts.

- Tighten to 37 Nm {3.7 kgf-m, 27 ft-lbf}.

All vehicles





1. Install the lower support insulator.
a. Install the lower support insulator bolt and 2 nuts.
i. Tighten to 80 Nm {8.0 kgf-m, 59 ft-lbf}.

b. Install the lower support insulator through bolt.
i. Tighten to 115 Nm {11.5 kgf-m, 85 ft-lbf}.





2. Install the LH splash shield and 7 retainers.





3. Install the RH splash shield and 6 retainers.

4. Install the front wheels and tires. See Service and Repair.





5. Install the 3 upper torque converter housing bolts.

- Tighten to 48 Nm {4.8 kgf-m, 35 ft-lbf}.

NOTE:Transaxle removed for clarity.






6. Install the selector lever cable retainer to the transmission fluid filler tube bracket.





7. Position the selector lever cable and bracket in place and install the 2 retaining bolts.

- Tighten to 12 Nm {1.2 kgf-m, 106 in-lbf}.





8. Connect the selector lever cable end to the manual control lever with the manual control lever and selector lever in DRIVE. Check selector lever cable adjustment. See Selector Lever Cable Adjustment.





9. Install the Air Cleaner (ACL) and outlet pipe assembly. See - Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe Removal/Installation.

10. Install the battery tray and battery. See Removal and Replacement and Removal and Replacement.

11. Fill with clean transaxle fluid to the correct level.

12. Perform the Solenoid Body Strategy Data Download procedure. See Solenoid Body Strategy.
