Catalytic Converter Removal/Installation - LH

CATALYTIC CONVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - LH MANIFOLD, 3.0L

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.





2. Remove the 6 retainers and the passenger side splash shield.

3. Remove the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). See - Service and Repair.





4. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.





5. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.





6. Remove the 3 bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.

7. Remove the 3 bolts and the LH catalytic converter heat shield.

8. Remove the exhaust Y-pipe. See - Service and Repair.

9. Remove and discard the 6 LH catalytic converter manifold nuts.

10. Remove the LH catalytic converter manifold from the vehicle.

- Discard the gasket.

11. Remove and discard the 6 LH catalytic converter manifold studs.

12. Clean and inspect the LH catalytic converter manifold. See - Testing and Inspection.

Installation

1. Install the 6 new LH catalytic converter manifold studs.

- Tighten to 11 Nm {1.1 kgf-m, 97 in-lbf}.





CAUTION:Failure to tighten the catalytic converter nuts to specification before installing the exhaust Y-pipe will cause the converter to develop an exhaust leak.

CAUTION:Failure to tighten the catalytic converter nuts to specification a second time will cause the converter to develop an exhaust leak.
2. Using a new gasket, install LH catalytic converter and the 6 nuts. Tighten in 2 stages in the sequence shown.

- Stage 1: Tighten to 25 Nm {2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lbf}.

- Stage 2: Tighten to 25 Nm {2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lbf}.

3. Install the exhaust Y-pipe. See - Service and Repair.

4. Install the LH catalytic converter heat shield and the 3 bolts.

- Tighten to 10 Nm {1.0 kgf-m, 89 in-lbf}.





5. Position the A/C compressor and install the 3 bolts.

- Tighten to 25 Nm {2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lbf}.





6. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.





7. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and install the accessory drive belt.

8. Install the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). See - Service and Repair.





9. Install the passenger side splash shield and the 6 retainers.
