INTERMITTENT NO CRANK, NO START WITH NO DTC OR PATS INDICATOR FLASHING
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010-2011 Tribute vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine and produced before March 3, 2011
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit an intermittent no crank, no start condition with no diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) or passive anti-theft system (PATS) indicator flashing.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove the starter motor. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-19 STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.5L).
3. Using an M10 x 1.5-6H tap, clean the threads of both upper and lower starter stud bolt holes in the engine block to loosen any excessive material. Clean areas with shop air.
4. Clean the threads of both starter bolts.
5. Install the starter motor. Refer to M53 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-19 STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.5L).
NOTE:
The ground wire that attaches to the starter motor upper stud bolt must be clean and tight.
6. Verify repair.
