BULLETIN NOTE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2010-2011 CX-9 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3 TB ****** 320219 (produced before February 10, 2011)

DESCRIPTION

After driving on a flat road for a few minutes, some vehicles may experience the DSC indicator light on momentarily, then turn off. DTC C1963 [SAS control module (Yaw rate sensor part) initial point correction error] is also stored in memory which can be deleted, but DTC will re-store again.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Is DTC C1963 the only stored DTC in the DSC/RSC HU/CM?

a. Yes - Proceed to PUMA SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL (SST) LOANER REQUEST.

b. No - This bulletin does not apply. If other DTCs are stored, refer to MS3 or Workshop Manual (section 04-02b ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [DSC/RSC]).





PUMA SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL (SST) LOANER REQUEST

REFLASH PREPARATION





1. Unpack SST and check for visual damage to PUMA tool and OBD2 cable. If damage is found, contact MNAO Technical Product Support at (949) 442-6537.

2. Verify that there is a solid connection between the tool and cable.

3. Proceed to REFLASH PROCEDURE.

REFLASH PROCEDURE

1. Using IDS, clear DTC C1963 from DSC/RSC HU/CM.

2. Turn the ignition OFF.

3. Disconnect IDS.

4. Turn the ignition ON.

5. Connect the PUMA tool cable to the vehicle DLC2 (OBD2) connector.





6. When the PUMA tool is properly connected to the vehicle, the "Vehicle" light will illuminate green. The reflash procedure will start automatically.

7. When the reflash sequence starts, the PUMA tool "Run / Armed" light will flash orange. DO NOT remove the cable during the reflash sequence.

8. When the reflash process is completed, the top four lights (PC/PDA, Vehicle, WLAM/E-script, Run / Armed) will flash in sequence (top to bottom continuously).

9. Turn the ignition OFF.

10. Turn the ignition ON to verify successful reflash. All lights will illuminate except for the "Warning/Failure" light.

11. Do all of the lights illuminate, except for the "Warning/Failure" light?

a. Yes - Proceed to Step 12.

b. No - Proceed to REFLASH FAULT PROCEDURE.

12. Turn the ignition OFF and unplug the PUMA tool from the DLC (OBD2) connector. The reflash process is complete.

13. Test Drive the vehicle by driving 300 feet (100 meters).

14. Does the brake warning light come on?

a. No - Repair is complete. Proceed to Step 15.

b. Yes - Proceed to REFLASH FAULT PROCEDURE.

15. Repack SST PUMA tool and send back to Mazda - Special Tools Loaner Program using the supplied return label.

NOTE:
Dealer will be responsible for full replacement value if not returned or not returned in same condition within 1 business day after the repair is completed. Full cost = $3,000.00.

REFLASH FAULT PROCEDURE (Warning/Failure light is illuminated)

There could be several reasons why the "Warning/Failure" light is illuminated from failure to read the VIN to a power interruption. Follow these steps should the PUMA reflash process stall, become interrupted or the "Warning/Failure" light is illuminated.

1. Check the Vehicle for related DTC codes other than C1963. Repair these fault codes 1st.
Disconnect the PUMA cable from the PUMA tool. Repeat the Reflash Preparation process.
Repeat the REFLASH PROCEDURE beginning at step 1.

2. Repeat Step 1, 2 times if necessary (3 times total).

3. Is the "Warning/Failure" light illuminated after repeating Step 1, 2 times (3 times total)?

a. No - Repair is complete. Proceed to Step 4.

b. Yes - Contact Mazda Technical Assistance Hotline for assistance.

4. Repack SST PUMA tool and send back to Mazda - Special Tools Loaner Program using the supplied return label.

NOTE:
Dealer will be responsible for full replacement value if not returned or not returned in same condition within 1 business day after the repair is completed. Full cost = $3,000.00.
