Gearshift Linkage
GEARSHIFT LINKAGE-4X4Removal and Installation
1. Remove the gearshift lever.
2. Remove the lower console rear trim.
3. Remove the bolts and the lower console.
4. Remove the pin type retainers and position the upper console trim panel rearward.
5. Disconnect the cigar lighter connector.
6. Position the carpet up and remove the shift cable gasket bolts.
7. Remove the retaining clip from the rear shift cable at the transaxle shift lever.
8. Disconnect the shift cable from the transaxle shift lever.
9. Remove the retaining clip from the front shift lever cable at the transaxle shift lever.
10. Disconnect the shift cable from the transaxle shift lever.
Note:
^ The cable retainer is released by pulling on the black pin and lifting the retainer free of the bracket.
11. Disconnect the rear shift cable retainer.
Note:
^ The cable retainer is released by pulling on the black pin and lifting the retainer free of the bracket.
12. Disconnect the front shift cable retainer.
13. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
Note:
^ The cables will have to be positioned one at a time.
Note:
^ The cables will have to be positioned so that the cable retainers follow along the left subframe.
14. Remove the retaining bracket nuts and position the cables under the vehicle.
15. Lower the vehicle.
Caution:
^ Use caution when removing the gearshift cables or damage to the gearshift cable retainer release pins may occur.
Note:
^ The gearshift cables are passed through the body one at a time.
16. Remove the gearshift cables.
17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
