Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

EXHAUST MANIFOLD

Removal
1. Remove the catalytic converter.
2. Lower the vehicle.





3. Remove the oil level indicator and tube bracket bolt.





Caution:
^ Do not work on the aluminum engine components until the engine is cold or damage may occur.

4. Remove the six bolts and three nuts and remove the exhaust manifold.
(1) Discard the gasket.

Installation

Caution:
^ The exhaust manifold sealing surfaces are soft metals. Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only plastic manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge the aluminum sealing surfaces.

1. Carefully clean both sealing surfaces.
(1) Position a new gasket.





2. Install the exhaust manifold and tighten using the sequence shown.




3. Install the oil level indicator and tube.
4. Install the catalytic converter.
