APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2003-2004 B4000

DESCRIPTION

Some B4000 vehicles may exhibit an oil leak from the rear of the engine. When the oil filter adapter leaks, the oil leak may appear to be coming from the rear main oil seal and/or ladder frame gasket area. The leak may be coming from the oil filter adapter, due to porosity.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
Prior to any repair attempts, inspect the oil filter adapter and determine the oil leak source, per Workshop Manual Section 01-01 ENGINE OIL LEAKS - FLUORESCENT OIL ADDITIVE METHOD. If the oil filter adapter is the source, replace the adapter following the repair procedure.

1. Verify customer concern.

It may be possible to remove the oil filter adapter without removing the exhaust manifold.
