1. Inspect the bearings for the following defects. Possible causes are shown:
^ cratering - fatigue failure (1)
^ spot polishing - improper seating (2)
^ scratching - dirty (3)
^ base exposed - poor lubrication (4)
^ both edges of - journal damaged (5)
^ one edge worn - journal tapered or bearing not seated (6)
