Reverse Servo Assembly
REVERSE SERVO ASSEMBLY REMOVAL / INSTALLATIONRemoval Note
Note: The battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms can occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The customer needs to be notified that they may experience slightly different upshifts either soft or firm and this is a temporary condition and will eventually return to normal operating condition.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Drain the transmission fluid.
4. Remove the (1) bolt.
5. Remove the (2) oil strainer.
6. Remove the bolts.
7. Remove the reverse band servo cover and gasket. Discard the reverse servo separator plate cover gasket.
8. Remove the reverse band servo piston and rod and the reverse servo piston return spring.
Installation Note
1. Clean and inspect the reverse servo piston bore and the reverse band servo piston and rod.
2. Install the reverse band servo piston and rod into the servo bore along with a reverse servo return spring.
3. Install SST.
(1) Install a new reverse servo separator plate cover gasket.
(2) Tighten the three screws.
4. Tighten the servo gauge adjusting screw.
5. Install dial indicator with bracketry on the transmission case.
(1) Position the indicator on the piston pad.
(2) Set the dial indicator to zero.
Note:
^ If the piston travel in this step is 3 - 5.6 trim (0.120 - 0.220 inch), it is within specification. If the piston travel is greater than 5.6 mm (0.220 inch), use the next longer piston and rod. If the piston travel is less than 3 mm (0.120 inch), use the next shorter piston and rod.
6. Back out the servo gauge adjusting screw until it bottoms out on the tool. Record the distance the servo piston traveled.
Caution:
^ Make sure the test spring is removed after this step.
7. Use the above procedure to check the piston travel with the newly selected reverse band servo piston and rod (if required) to make sure that the piston travel is 3 - 5.6 mm (0120 - 0.220 inch). Remove the servo gauge and the reverse band servo return spring.
^ Grooves are located on reverse servo rod.
8. Install the selected reverse band servo piston and rod.
(1) Install the reverse band servo piston and rod assembly.
(2) Install a new reverse servo separator plate cover gasket.
(3) Install the reverse band servo cover.
^ Loosely install the reverse servo piston cover bolts.
(4) Tighten the servo cover bolts in the sequence shown.
9. Install the (1) oil strainer.
10. Install the (2) bolt.
11. Position a new oil pan gasket on the transmission fluid pan.
12. Install and align the oil pan.
^ Loosely install the 18 oil pan bolts.
13. Tighten the oil pan bolts.
^ Use a crisscross sequence to tighten the oil pan bolts.
14. Lower the vehicle.
Note:
^ When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms can occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The customer needs to be notified that they may experience slightly different upshifts either soft or firm and this is a temporary condition and will eventually return to normal operating condition.
15. Connect the negative battery cable.
16. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level and check for proper transmission operation.
^ Use equivalent.
