INTERMEDIATE SERVO REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

Removal Note

Note:
^ When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms can occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The customer needs to be notified that they may experience slightly different upshifts either soft or firm and this is a temporary condition an will eventually return to normal operating condition.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the control valve body.

4. Remove the shift cable.
(1) Disconnect the shift cable from the manual control lever.
(2) Remove the shift cable from the bracket.
5. Remove the digital transmission range (TR) sensor.

Note:
^ If equipped, the transmission servo heat shield needs to be unclipped from the fluid pan rail and positioned out of the way for fluid pan removal.

6. Loosen the nut and position the heat shield out of the way.

7. Remove the intermediate band locknut and unscrew the intermediate band adjusting screw.
^ Discard the intermediate band locknut after removal.
8. Remove the catalytic converter.

Caution:
^ Servo cover is under spring tension. Use caution when removing.

9. Using SST, remove the intermediate band servo cover retaining ring.
(1) Install the SST and compress the intermediate band servo cover.
(2) Remove the intermediate servo cover retaining ring.
^ Slowly remove tension on the J hook nut and remove the servo cover compressor.
10. Using SST, remove the overdrive band servo cover retaining ring.
(1) Install the SST and compress the overdrive/front band servo cover.
(2) Remove the overdrive/front servo cover retaining ring.
^ Slowly remove tension on the J-hook nut and remove the servo cover compressor.

Caution:
^ The SST should be used to prevent damage to the servo and bore.

11. Use the SST to remove the front band servo cover, servo piston and servo piston spring.
(1) Insert the SST into the transmission case, locate on the servo rod, and remove the front band servo cover, servo piston and servo piston spring.

Installation Note
