SEAT CUSHION FRONT REMOVAL/INSTALLATIONRemoval Note
WARNING:
- Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
- After deployment, the air bag surface can contain deposits of sodium hydroxide, a product of the gas generant combustion that is irritating to the skin. Wash your hands with soap and water afterwards.
- Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
Vehicles with safety belt buckle pretensioners
1. Prepare the vehicle for front seat cushion removal.
WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

3. Remove the affected seat.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the safety belt buckle and pretensioner removal and installation procedure.
4. Remove the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.
Vehicles without safety belt buckle pretensioners
WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes, and instructions in the seat removal and installation procedure.
2. Disconnect the safety belt buckle usage switch electrical connector and remove the affected seat.
Vehicles with 60 percent bench seat
3. Remove the seat armrest.
All vehicles
4. Remove the center safety belt buckle through the opening in the front seat cushion.
5. Remove the front seat backrest.
6. Remove the seat track.
Installation Note

All vehicles
1. Install the seat track.
2. Install the front seat backrest.
3. Insert the center safety belt buckle through the opening in the front seat cushion.
Vehicles with 60 percent bench seat
4. Install the seat armrest.
Vehicles without safety belt buckle pretensioners

5. Install the affected seat.
Vehicles with safety belt buckle pretensioners
6. Restore the vehicle to operating condition.

1. Install the safety belt buckle and pretensioner.

2. Install the 60 percent bench seat.

4. Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. With all restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

7. Check the active restraint system for correct operation.
