Pinpoint Test 1
PINPOINT TEST 1: AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR IS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY - DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR DISCONNECTED OR INOPERATIVE, OR LOST / LOW IGNITION FEEDNormal Operation
NOTE: During normal operation, the air bag indicator will be lit continuously for 6 seconds after the ignition switch is placed in the ON position and after five cycles of a lamp fault code (LFC) if a fault exists. Be sure to cycle the ignition switch and look for a 6 second indicator prove-out without LFCs.
The air bag diagnostic monitor will communicate diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) through the WDS or equivalent Tester using the Data Link Connector (DLC). If the WDS or equivalent
Tester displays NO COMMUNICATION when retrieving Continuous DTCs, use this pinpoint test to troubleshoot the system.
Possible Causes
An air bag indicator that is illuminated continuously could be caused by one of the following:
- circuitry
- the ignition circuit damaged
- the air bag diagnostic monitor disconnected from the vehicle harness
- a loss of air bag diagnostic monitor ground circuits
- the air bag diagnostic monitor inoperative
- the shorting bar or camming beam in connector
NOTE: If a seat equipped with a seat-mounted safety belt pretensioner system is being serviced, the air bag system must be deactivated. See SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION.
NOTE: Restraint system diagnostic tools MUST be installed under the seats in the safety belt pretensioner to floor connectors.
NOTE: Diagnostics or repairs are not to be performed on a safety belt pretensioner system with the seats in the vehicle. Prior to attempting to diagnose/repair the safety belt pretensioner system the seats must be removed from the vehicle and the restraint system diagnostic tools must be installed in the safety belt pretensioner connectors at the floor connectors. The restraint system diagnostic tools must be removed prior to operating the vehicle over the road.
NOTE: Diagnostics may be performed on seat systems other than the safety belt pretensioner system (lumbar, climate controlled, heated, power seat track) with the seat installed in the vehicle as long as the restraint system diagnostic tools are installed under the seats in the safety belt pretensioner to floor connectors.
NOTE: After diagnosing/repairing a seat system, the restraint system diagnostic tools must be removed before operating the vehicle over the road.
