Fuel Rail: Service and Repair

FUEL RAIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry any lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION: If the fuel rail is used as a leverage device, damage may occur to the fuel rail. Care must be taken when working around the fuel rail.

Removal Note

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable
2. Relieve the fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF.




3. Remove the intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.




4. Disconnect the fuel injector connectors.




5. Disconnect the fuel injector harness from the fuel injector supply manifold.




6. Disconnect the fuel line spring lock.




7. Using the special tool, disconnect the fuel line.
8. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold.
1. Remove the bolts and the spacer insulators.
2. Remove the fuel rail.

Installation Note

CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the fuel injectors. Make sure the injector end caps are clean and free of contamination.

1. Lubricate new O-rings with engine oil and install onto each injector.
2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
