Subject:
DIP IN CENTER OF INSTRUMENT PANEL
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
All 2001 Tributes
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a dip in the center of the Instrument Panel. This may be caused by the Instrument Panel having a low attachment point with the steel body bracket.
To correct this condition, a spacer/washer is added between the Instrument Panel attachment and steel body bracket attachment to raise the Instrument Panel up at the center attachment.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the dip condition.
2. Remove center attachment cover.
3. Remove center attachment bolt.
4. Remove audio unit according to Workshop Manual (section 09-20 ENTERTAINMENT).
5. Add/slide washer between the Instrument Panel attachment and steel body bracket attachment. This will raise the Instrument Panel in the center.
NOTE:
Based on the severity of I/P dip, add washers as required (not to exceed 4 mm). Part number 9995-20-800 is 1.6 mm thick washer and 9995-10-818 is 2.3 mm. The washers can be combined to get 3.9 mm.
6. Once spacer/washer is in place, secure center attachment bolt, re-install center Instrument Panel attachment cover, and audio unit.
7. Verify repair.
