WARRANTY EXTENSION

For certain 2001-2002 Tribute and 2001-2002 B4000 Truck vehicles, the warranty coverage for the DPFE Sensor is extended. The extended warranty is available for 5 years from the original warranty start date or 74,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

CONDITION OF CONCERN

A malfunctioning DPFE Sensor may illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or cause poor driveability. Symptoms may include rough running, lack of power, surge, or decreased fuel economy.





SUBJECT VEHICLES

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Mazda will notify U.S. owners by first class mail beginning October 1, 2004. Owners will be advised they do not need to come in for inspection if their vehicle is functioning normally.

Only defective DPFE Sensors qualify for this warranty extension program.





WARRANTY CLAIM PROCESSING INFORMATION

VERIFY THE VEHICLE NEEDS THE SSP





1. Verify the vehicle is within the ranges shown.

2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System.

Note:
Because this is a warranty extension program, application of a campaign label is not necessary, even when replacing the sensor.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Retrieve DTC(s).

a) If P0401, P0402, P1400, or P1401 are present, turn ignition OFF and replace the DPFE sensor. Then proceed to Step 2.

b) If no DTC is retrieved, proceed with the appropriate electrical/driveability diagnosis using the Workshop Manual.

2. Clear DTC(s).

3. Verify the repair by performing Key On Engine Off (KOEO) and Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test.
