EXTENSION HOUSING SEAL AND BUSHING REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
Removal Note
1. Raise and support the vehicle.





2. Mark the propeller shaft.

Note: To maintain initial propeller shaft balance, mark the rear propeller shaft yoke and axle flange so they may be installed in their original position.

3. Remove rear propeller shaft.

Caution: Use the extension housing bushing remover carefully so that the seal area is not damaged.

3. Using SSTs, remove the extension housing seal.





4. Install SST or equivalent and remove extension housing bushing.





5. Install SST or equivalent and remove extension housing bushing.

Installation Note
1. Position the extension housing bushing into the extension housing.





Caution: The lube hole in the extension housing bushing must be aligned with the lube groove in the extension housing. This groove is located at the 3 o'clock position when viewed from the rear.

Note: Inspect the counterbore of the extension housing for burrs. Remove any burrs from the extension housing counterbore with an oil stone.





2. Use SST or equivalent to install the extension housing bushing.

Caution: The tool will bottom when bushing is in the proper position.





3. Position new extension housing seal with drain hole in the 6 o'clock position.





4. Use SST or equivalent to install the extension housing seal.

Note: Inspect the propeller shaft slip-yoke for wear and damage. Replace if required.

5. Align the drive shaft with the marks made during removal to ensure correct balance.
6. Install rear propeller shaft.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level
1. Use equivalent.
9. Check for proper transmission operation.
