Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

FUEL INJECTORS REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry any lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION: If the fuel rail is used as a leverage device, damage may occur to the fuel rail. Care must be taken when working around the fuel rail.

Removal Note
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the upper intake manifold.
3. Disconnect the fuel injectors from the engine harness.
4. Relieve the fuel pressure.




5. Disconnect the fuel line.




6. Disconnect the vacuum line.




7. Remove the fuel rail.
1. Remove the four bolts.
2. Remove the fuel rail and fuel injectors as assembly.




8. Remove the fuel injectors.

Installation Note

CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the fuel injectors. Make sure the injector end caps are clean and free on contamination.

NOTE: Lubricate the fuel injectors prior to installation.




1. Install the fuel injectors.
1. Lubricate the O-rings with engine oil.




2. Install the fuel rail.




3. Connect the vacuum line.
4. Connect the fuel line.
5. Connect the engine harness to the fuel injectors.
6. Install the upper intake manifold.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
