Engine Removal/Installation

ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Recover the A/C system.
4. Remove the hood.
5. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.





6. Remove the upper radiator hose.





7. Remove the lower radiator hose.





8. Remove the bolts and position the fan shroud on the fan blade.
9. On automatic transmission - equipped vehicles, disconnect the transmission cooler lines.





10. Disconnect the radiator overflow hose.





11. Remove the radiator.





12. Remove the fan shroud.
13. Disconnect the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line.
14. Disconnect the the A/C clutch and A/C cycling switch connectors.





15. Disconnect the generator cable.





16. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose and the power steering return hose.





17. Disconnect the vapor management hose at the throttle body.
18. Disconnect the fuel line.
19. Disconnect the evaporative emissions canister vacuum line.





20. Disconnect the 42-pin connector.





21. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line.





22. Disconnect the ground strap.
23. Disconnect the A/C pressure cut-out switch.





24. Disconnect the PCM.





25. Remove the nut.





26. Disconnect the PCM ground strap.
27. Remove the accelerator control splash shield.





28. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the cruise control actuator cable.
29. Remove the A/C suction and discharge hose bracket.





30. Disconnect the heater hoses.





31. Disconnect the A/C line.





32. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor connector.





33. Disconnect the vacuum line to the vacuum tank reservoir.





34. Disconnect the peanut fitting on the A/C line.





35. Remove the nut.
36. Remove the starter motor.





37. Remove the four bolts.





38. Remove the nuts.





39. Remove the bolts.
40. Partially lower the vehicle.





41. Remove the bolts.
42. Lower the vehicle.





43. Disconnect the transmission harness connectors.





44. Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) connectors.
45. Attach the engine lift.
46. Support the engine with a floor crane.
47. Support the transmission with a suitable floor jack.





48. Remove the four engine mount nuts.
49. Remove the engine from the vehicle.





50. Remove the flywheel.
51. Remove the spacer plate.
52. Install the engine on a suitable engine stand.
53. Install in the reverse order of removal.
