Procedures
ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Remove the hood.
4. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
5. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose at the radiator.
6. Remove the fan clutch and the fan blade as an assembly.
Caution: The fan clutch has left-hand threads.
7. Remove the drive belt.
8. Remove the fan shroud.
9. Remove the radiator.
10. Recover the A/C system.
11. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube assembly.
12. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube assembly at the accumulator.
13. Remove the nut and position the suction/discharge line aside.
14. Remove the nut.
15. Disconnect the A/C compressor wiring.
16. Remove the bolt and nut.
17. Position A/C compressor and A/C compressor mounting bracket aside as an assembly.
1. Remove the bolts.
2. Set the assembly aside.
18. Disconnect the heater water hoses.
19. Remove the nut and position the ground cable aside.
20. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
21. Disconnect the fuel lines.
22. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the cruise control actuator cable.
23. Disconnect the vacuum line from the vacuum tee.
24. Disconnect the vacuum line.
25. Disconnect the 42-pin connector.
26. Disconnect the vacuum line.
27. Disconnect the PCM connector.
28. Remove the nut from the PCM harness.
29. Remove the stud bolt and the PCM ground strap.
30. Disconnect the generator wiring and position aside.
31. Disconnect both front heated oxygen sensors.
32. Disconnect the transmission harness connectors.
33. Disconnect the vacuum line to the vacuum tank reservoir.
34. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
35. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
36. Remove the left heated oxygen sensor.
37. Disconnect the dual converter Y pipe from both exhaust manifolds.
38. Remove the torque converter nuts on automatic transmissions.
1. Remove the access plate.
2. Remove the four nuts.
39. Remove the starter motor and the starter grounding stud bolt.
40. Remove the bolt.
41. Remove the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.
42. Lower the vehicle.
43. Attach engine lift.
44. Remove the four nuts.
45. Support the transmission.
46. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
47. Remove the flywheel.
48. Mount the engine on a suitable work stand.
49. Install in the reverse order of removal.
