Valve Cover: Service and Repair

VALVE COVER-RH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.
3. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the RH spark plugs and position aside.
4. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector.





5. Disconnect the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor connector and position engine harness aside.





6. Disconnect the vacuum line.





7. Remove the ignition coil bracket.





8. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube.





9. Remove the two bolts and the six stud bolts and remove the valve cover.





10. Remove the valve cover gasket, if required.
11. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Valve Cover (RH) Installation Note





1. Clean all the mating surfaces.

Note: Do not clean the valve cover gasket with solvent. Damage to the valve cover gasket may occur.





2. Apply a bead of silicone in two places where the cylinder head and cylinder block meet.
3. Install the valve cover gasket.





4. Install the valve cover.
1. Position the valve cover.
2. Tighten the bolts and the stud bolts in the sequence shown.

VALVE COVER-LH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the upper intake manifold.





3. Disconnect the left hand spark plug wires at the spark plugs.





4. Remove the five bolts and the three stud bolts.





5. Remove the valve cover.





6. Remove the valve cover gasket, if required.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Valve Cover (LH) Installation Note





1. Clean all mating surfaces.





2. Apply a bead of silicone in two places where the cylinder head and cylinder block meet.

Note: Do not clean the valve cover gasket with solvent. Damage to the valve cover gasket may occur.

3. If removed, install the valve cover gasket.
4. Install the valve cover.
1. Position the valve cover.





2. Tighten the five bolts and three stud bolts in the sequence shown.
