CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.

Note If a transmission has been disassembled to replace worn or damaged parts and the valves in the main control valve body stick repeatedly from foreign material, the torque converter must be removed and cleaned by using a mechanically agitated cleaner, such as the Torque Converter/Fluid Cooler Cleaner.

3. Remove the oil pan and oil strainer.

4. Unclip control valve body wire harness.
1. Lift up on wire harness guide and protector and disengage the retaining pins from the solenoid clamps.
5. Disconnect the (1) SST, SS2, SS3 and CCS/SS4 electrical connectors.
6. Disconnect the (2) Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid electrical connector.

7. Disconnect the (3) Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid electrical connector.

8. Remove the detent bolt (1) and spring (2).

9. Remove the reverse servo (2).
- Remove the reverse servo cover and gasket.(1) Discard gasket.

Warning The piston assembly can pop out due to spring pressure when removing the cover.

10. Remove the reverse servo piston and rod.

Caution Support main control valve body.

11. Do not remove the two (gold) bolts specified.
12. Remove the 23 main control valve body (black) bolts.

Caution Support the main control valve body.

Note Use a 10 mm socket to remove the 16 M6x40mm, 4 M6x45mm, 2 M6x35 and 1 M6x30mm control valve body screws.

13. Remove the control valve body as an assembly.

14. Install the alignment pins into the transmission case.

15. Install a new gasket and separator.

Note
- Make sure main control to case gasket is properly aligned.
- Use petroleum jelly to hold gasket in place.

16. Install the control valve body assembly.
1. Position the assembly using the SSTs as a Guide.

Note The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps.

6. Loosely install the sixteen M6x40mm main control valve body bolts.

7. Tighten the main control valve body bolts in the sequence shown.

17. Install the spring and detent spring bolt.

18. Install the reverse servo piston and rod.
19. Check the reverse piston travel.

20. Install a new gasket and reverse piston cover and tighten in order shown.
21. Connect the six solenoid connectors to the solenoids.
1. SST, SS2, SS3 and CCS/SS4 solenoids
2. TCC solenoid
3. EPC solenoid

Note The wiring guide snaps into place on the solenoid retainers.

22. Install the wiring loom protector and guide.
1. Align the pins in the holes of the solenoid brackets and gently push down.

Caution Excessive pressure may break the locating pins.

23. Test the solenoid valves.
24. Install new O-rings on the oil strainer.
25. Apply petroleum jelly to the O-rings.

26. Install the oil strainer.

27. Install the oil non nit

28. Install the oil pan.

Note Use a crisscross sequence to tighten the transmission fluid pan bolts.

29. Install transmission heat shield (5R55E only).
