Ignition Switch - Sticking/Binding/Hard to Turn

STICKING OR BINDING IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER OR HIGH EFFORT WHEN TURNING IGNITION SWITCH

DESCRIPTION
Some ignition switch lock cylinders may exhibit the following highly intermittent conditions:
^ Roughness or excessive effort in turning the key from RUN to START position.
^ Key does not fully return from START to RUN after starting vehicle. This may result in intermittent accessory function.
This may be caused by the key-in-ignition warning chime switch. Customers experiencing this concern should have their vehicles repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Record customers radio station preset. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Wait at least 1 - minute.
3. Turn the ignition key to the run position.
4. Press ignition cylinder release switch (# )1), while pulling the ignition cylinder out.
5. Remove the plastic key chime warning switch:
A. Pry upward on the plastic retainer as indicated, while sliding the switch away from the key insertion end.
6. Install a new Key-In-Ignition warning chime switch.
7. Reinstall the ignition cylinder to the steering column.
8. Connect the negative battery terminal.
9. Set customer radio station presets.
10. Verify repair.
