Oil Pan: Service and Repair

OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Remove the engine.

Caution: Do not turn engine upside down with oil pan attached. Sludge and debris in oil pan will fall into cylinders, pistons, and connecting rods, possibly causing rapid wear. Sludge may also plug engine oil pickup screen.

2. Mount engine on a suitable engine stand right side up.
3. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.





4. Remove the oil pan.





5. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket.
6. Install in reverse order of removal.

Oil Pan Installation Note
1. Wait no longer than four minutes before installing the oil pan.





2. Apply a bead of silicone sealant in six places as shown below.





3. Position and press in place the oil pan gasket.





4. Position the oil pan.
5. Align the oil pan to the cylinder block using a straight edge.

Note: The long bolts are installed in positions 15 and 18.





6. Install the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown.
