Thermostat: Service and Repair
THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATIONCaution: Do not pry on the thermostat to remove.
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Disconnect the heater return hose at thermostat cover.
3. Disconnect ECT sensor and water temperature sender unit.
4. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the outlet connection.
5. Remove the bolts. Pull elbow away from the cylinder head.
6. Remove the thermostat and gasket.
Note: The gasket must be positioned on the thermostat cover before the thermostat is installed.
Note: The thermostat cover casting contains a locking recess into which the thermostat is turned and locked.
7. Install the thermostat cover.
8. Install in reverse order of removal.
Steps After Procedure
1. Fill radiator with specified amount and type of engine coolant.
2. Start engine and check for leaks.
3. Bleed the cooling system.
