Valve Cover: Service and Repair

VALVE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor.





3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.





4. Remove the accelerator control splash shield.





5. Remove the accelerator cable.
6. Disconnect the crankcase vent hose from the valve cover.





7. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring from the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and the Throttle Position (TP) sensor.





8. Disconnect the intake side spark plug wires from the front ignition coil. Position out of the way.
9. Disconnect the exhaust side spark plug wire retainers and engine control harness from the stud on the valve cover.
10. Remove the throttle body.





11. Remove the vacuum line from EGR valve and intake manifold.





12. Remove the valve cover.
1. Remove the 8 bolts.
2. Remove the valve cover and the gasket.
3. Discard the valve cover gasket.
13. Install a new valve cover gasket on the valve cover.
14. Install in reverse order of removal.
15. Tighten the 8 valve cover bolts.
Tightening torque: 9 - 13 Nm (92 - 132 kgf.cm, 80 - 115 inch lbs.)
