Compressor Clutch Relay: Description and Operation

The A/C system is monitored and regulated by the electronic engine control (EEC) system. Through its control of the WAC (WOT A/C cut-off) relay, the EEC system disengages the A/C compressor clutch under the following conditions:

^ Immediately after engine start.
^ Briefly during WOT (wide open throttle) operation to allow extra engine power for passing.
^ When engine temperature approaches an overheated condition.
^ When engine rpm approaches stall speed.

In addition, the EEC system senses clutch cycling pressure switch output and momentarily delays compressor clutch engagement until idle rpm is raised to prevent stalling.

The WAC relay is located in the power distribution box on the right side inner fender.
