Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Service and Repair
Air Bypass Valve Replacement:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect valve electrical connector.
2. Remove two valve retaining bolts.
3. Lift off valve and remove gasket.
CLEANING
1. After removing the air bypass valve from the upper manifold assembly, the electrical solenoid assembly can be separated from the mechanical valve portion by removing two screws and separating the two parts.
2. Only the mechanical portion should be cleaned by soaking in an appropriate carburetor cleaner for no longer that 2 to 3 minutes.
CAUTION: To prevent deterioration of the internal O-ring, do not exceed 3 minutes soak time and do not use choke cleaner.
3. With the mechanical portion completely submerged, thoroughly shake in all directions.
4. Push in on the rod that mates with the solenoid assembly and repeat shake procedure.
5. Remove unit from cleaning fluid and dry completely using shop air.
6. Reassemble unit and install on manifold as previously described.
INSTALLATION
1. Ensure that both valve and manifold gasket surfaces are clean. If scraping is necessary, use care not to damage mating surfaces.
2. Hold valve and gasket in place and install retaining bolts. Torque to 6 - 8 ftlb (9 - 11 Nm).
3. Plug in electrical connector.
4. Start engine and check operation. Reset idle speed if necessary. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
