Rear Differential

Fig. 3 Exploded View Of Differential & Related Components:

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain rear axle oil into a suitable container.
3. Remove propeller shaft assembly.
4. Disconnect brake line from backing plate.
5. Remove brake backing plate retaining nuts.
6. Remove rear axle shaft and brake components using puller tool No. 49 8501 631A or equivalent.
7. Support differential carrier, and remove in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 3.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply sealant to both side of a new gasket, stud threads, carrier and housing faces.
b. Connect brake tube and bleed brake system.
c. Tighten bolts to specifications shown in Fig. 3.
