Piston & Connecting Rod
1. Apply a liberal amount of clean engine oil to the cylinder walls, pistons and rings.2. Install each piston assembly into the cylinder block with the ``F'' mark facing the front of the engine.
3. Check the connecting rod bearing clearances using the same procedure as used in CRANKSHAFT main bearing oil clearance. Align the matching marks on the cap and on the connecting rod when installing the connecting rod caps. Connecting rod caps should be tightened to specifications. If clearance is more than .0039 inch (.10mm), grind the crankshaft and use undersize bearings.
4. Check the side clearance of each connecting rod without the cap installed. If clearance exceeds .012 inch (.30mm), replace connecting rod.
5. Apply a liberal amount of engine oil to the crankpin journal and connecting rod bearing.
6. Install connecting rod cap with alignment marks aligned. Tighten caps to specifications.
7. Ensure crankshaft rotates smoothly.
