Oil Pan: Service and Repair

OIL PAN
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Remove in the order shown in the figure.






4X2
1. Splash shield
2. Gusset plate
3. Oil pan
4. Drain plug, inspect the threads for damage.






4X4
Before removing the pans below, suspend the engine slightly.
1. Splash shield
2. Fresh-air duct
3. Fan cowling
4. Engine mount
1. Splash shield
2. Fresh-air duct
3. Fan cowling
4. Engine mount
5. Transmission lower mount
6. Oil cooler hose and pipe
7. Stabilizer bracket
8. Oil pan
9. Drain plug, inspect the threads for damage.






Engine mount (4 x 4).
1. Install the front engine hanger.
2. Suspend the engine. Remove the engine mount nuts and lift the engine to gain removal clearance.






Transmission lower mount (4 x 4).
Support the transmission with a transmission jack before removing the transmission lower mount.

Oil pan
1. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts.

Caution: Pry tools can easily scratch the oil pan contact surfaces. Prying off the oil pan can also easily bend the oil pan flange.






2. Insert a screwdriver between the oil pan and the cylinder block to separate them.
3. Remove the oil pan.

INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Installation Note.
Oil pan
Remove all foreign material from the contact surface.






1. Without gasket; Apply silicone sealant to the oil pan along the inside of the bolt holes, overlap the ends, and install the oil pan within five minutes.






2. With gasket; Apply silicone sealant to the shaded areas shown in the figure, install a new gasket and the oil pan within five minutes.



Caution: If the bolts are reused, remove the old sealant from the bolt threads. Tightening a bolt that has old sealant on it can cause thread damage.

3. Tighten the oil pan bolts.
Tightening torque: 6.9-9.80 N.m { 70-100 kgf.cm , 61-86.8 in.lbf }.
4. Fill with the specified amount and type of engine oil. (Refer to oil). Engine Oil
5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
6. Start the engine and check for oil leaks.
7. Check the oil level and add oil if necessary.
