Transmission



Mazda refers to the following image and removal notes for Transmission replacement. In addition refer to torque specifications when installing. Specifications






1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Loosen oil pan attaching bolts and drain fluid into a suitable container.
4. Remove speedometer cable, then disconnect all electrical connectors.
5. Disconnect exhaust pipe and remove heat insulator.
6. Make alignment marks to propeller shafts, then remove shafts and filler tube.
7. Remove undercover, then the torque converter mounting bolts.
8. Remove starter, then the exhaust pipe bracket.
9. Remove transmission to mount bolts, then the oil pipes.
10. Remove gusset plates, then the transmission to engine attaching bolts.
11. Remove upper and lower mounts, then the transmission assembly.
12. Reverse procedure to install


Removal Notes

Front Propeller Shaft







1. Put matching marks on the flanges for correct reassembly.



Propeller Shaft, Rear Propeller Shaft





1. Before removing the propeller shaft, put matching marks on the flanges for correct reassembly.





2. Push a rag into the double offset joint to prevent damage to the boot by the propeller shaft





3. When the propeller shaft is removed from the extension housing, install the SST into the extension housing.



Oil pipe






Caution: Be sure the transmission is securely supported with the transmission jack.


1. Remove the oil pipe mount bolts.
2. Support the transmission with a transmission jack
3. Remove the transmission mount bolts.
4. Lean the transmission downward.
