A/C - Inoperative: Overview

Bulletin No. 010/92
Issued 6/8/92
Revised

Category
U

Applicable Model/s
1989-'91 MPV

Subject
INOPERATIVE A/C

DESCRIPTION

Inoperative air conditioning may be caused by blower motor relay failure. The blower motor relay base may melt if all of the following conditions occur:

^ Fan speed on "High"

^ Vehicle left idling for long period after high speed driving

^ High temperatures (+80~F)

This problem has been corrected by redesigning the blower motor relay so that heat dissipates quickly. These redesigned relays have been used in production of 1991 MPV models since January 7, 1991.

To correct this problem on vehicles produced prior to January 7, 1991, the redesigned relay must be retrofitted to the vehicle.

Components for correcting vehicles that experience this problem are contained in repair kit (LAY1 67 01X). See components in illustration.

Installation of the repair kit requires the following action:

A. Modification of Main Fuse Box

B. Connection to Vehicle Front Harness

C. Installation of Redesigned Blower Motor Relay

D. Modification of Vehicle Relay Box

Procedures for the above (A through D) are detailed in this bulletin.
