Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
W/3 SPEED AUTO. TRANS.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove shift knob and console box.
3. Remove 4WD shift lever plate and gearshift lever.
4. Remove under covers, then the exhaust pipe.
5. Remove front and rear propeller shaft.
6. Remove speedometer cable from transmission.
7. Disconnect all electrical connectors from transmission.
8. Remove shift cable and bracket, then the vacuum diaphragm hose.
9. Remove gusset plates, then the bellhousing under cover.
10. Remove torque converter attaching bolts.
11. Support transmission using a suitable jack, then remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
12. Remove oil cooler pipe and bracket, then the oil level gauge and pipe.
13. Remove crossmember attaching bolts, then the crossmember.
14. Lower transmission from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
W/4 SPEED AUTO. TRANS.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove propeller shaft and install suitable mainshaft holder to prevent oil leakage.
3. Remove speedometer cable and vacuum hose from transmission.
4. Remove shift lever, then the gusset plates and under cover.
5. Remove torque converter attaching bolts, then the transmission mount bracket.
6. Disconnect all transmission electrical connectors.
7. Remove level gauge pipe, then the vacuum pipe bracket.
8. Remove oil cooler pipe.
9. Support transmission using a suitable jack, then remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
10. Lower transmission from vehicle.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
