Flow of Diagnosis
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power seat(s) to duplicate the condition.2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
^ Front seat tracks obstructed
^ Seat at limit(s) of travel.
Electrical
^ Open fuse junction panel
- Fuse 39 (10 A)
- Fuse 41 (20 A)
- Fuse 28 (10 A).
^ Open power distribution box
- Fuse 13 (30 A).
^ Loose, corroded or damaged connectors.
^ Damaged switches.
^ Damaged motors.
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as necessary.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the data link connector located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is properly inserted
^ check the connections to the vehicle
^ check the ignition switch position
If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the NGS Tester manual.
5. Perform the Data Link Diagnostic Test using the NGS. If the NGS responds with:
^ CKT 914 and CKT 915=ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to Information Bus, Communication System Diagnostics to diagnose the network concern.
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the Driver Seat Module (DSM), go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With DSM - Unable to Perform Self-Test
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the Driver Door Module (DDM), go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication W/DDM - Unable to Perform Self-Test
^ If the DSM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self-Test diagnostics for the DSM. If the DSM exits the diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to a normal operating state, go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With DSM - Unable to Perform Self-Test
^ If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, make sure all doors are closed, retrieve and record the continuous DTCs, erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self-Test diagnostics for the DDM. If the DDM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operating state, go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication W/DDM - Unable to Perform Self-Test
6. If the DSM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the DSM DTC Index to continue the diagnostics. Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
7. If the DDM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the DDM DTC Index to continue the diagnostics. Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
