Passenger Air Bag Module
RemovalNOTE: If the air bag did not deploy, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnosis before replacing the air bag module.
WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
1. Disconnect positive battery cable.
2. Open glove compartment and rotate all the way down, past the stops.
3. Disconnect passenger air bag connector.
4. Remove two bolts securing lower passenger air bag mounting bracket to instrument panel steel.
5. Remove instrument panel shelf moulding.
6. Remove two screws securing front of air bag to instrument panel.
7. Remove passenger air bag by pushing on air bag from inside panel. Do not handle air bag by grabbing edges of deployment doors.
Installation
1. Insert passenger air bag into space in instrument panel.
2. Secure air bag assembly to instrument panel with two screws. Tighten to 2.7-3.7 N.m (24-32 lb-in).
3. Install instrument panel shelf moulding.
4. From the glove compartment opening, install two bolts retaining the lower passenger air bag mounting bracket to the instrument panel steel. Tighten to 7.6-10.4 N.m (68-92 lb-in).
5. Connect passenger air bag connector.
6. Close glove compartment door.
7. Connect positive battery cable.
8. Verify air bag indicator.
