LINCOLN-MERCURY:

This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to provide a ground lead assembly and include more graphics in the service procedure.

ISSUE:
A service procedure has been developed for upgrading manually closed decklids to the power pulldown system.

ACTION:
If a power pulldown system is desired, use the following service procedure.


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove and throw away the luggage compartment carpeting. Refer to the 1991 Lincoln Town Car Service Manual, Page 45-03-19, for removal procedure. Keep the two (2) pushnuts and four (4) pushpins for use later.

3. Remove the deck lid trim piece. Keep the trim piece and eleven (11) push pins (388577-SW) fastening the trim piece. Refer to the Service Manual Section 45-03 for service details.

4. Remove and throw away the manual striker. Keep the two (2) screws and washers (N605892-SVMR) for use later.





5. In place of the striker, install a power pulldown actuator bracket (FOVY-5443258-A) with the original striker screws and washers, Figure 1. Tighten to 6-8 lb.ft. (8-11 N-m).

6. Attach a power pulldown actuator assembly (E90Y-54432A38-A) to the bracket using three (3) bolts (N803006-S36M). Tighten to 5-6 lb.ft. (7-8 N-m).





7. Connect the black 3-pin connector (C-477) to the power pulldown actuator assembly. This connector is taped to the tail lamp loom inside the back panel. Refer to Figure 2.

8. Locate black trunk lid ajar switch connector (C475), Figure 3.

a. Install box terminal of lead assembly (F2VY-14A523-A), Figure 4.


b. Always remove connector wedge prior to terminal installation and reinstall wedge after. Pull test wiring to ensure terminals are locked in connector.





9. Locate blue wire harness connector (C404), Figure 5.

a. Install bullet terminal of lead assembly (F2VY-14A523-A) as shown in Figure 6.

b. Remove the connector wedge prior to terminal installation and reinstall the wedge after installation. Pull test wiring to ensure terminals are locked in connector.

10. Route lead assembly (F2VY-14A523-A) along side deck lid wiring and secure as necessary using tape or tie straps.

11. Reconnect battery ground cable and test pulldown system.

12. Install a new rear floor trunk liner (FOVY-5445455-BAC).

13. Reinstall the deck lid trim.

14. Test the system for proper operation.

15. Check and, if necessary, adjust the latch.
