Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Fuel Rail Assembly:

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fuel cap and release the fuel tank pressure.
3. Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
4. Remove the fuel supply manifold, refer to FUEL SUPPLY MANIFOLD.
5. Remove the fuel injector electrical connectors.

Intake Manifold:

6. Lift injectors out of the manifold while gently rocking from side to side.
7. Inspect the injector O-rings for deterioration and replace as needed.
8. Inspect the injector "plastic hat" and washer for signs of deterioration, replace as required.



INSTALLATION:

1. Lubricate the two injector O-rings with clean engine oil and install two on each injector.

CAUTION: DO NOT use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.

2. Install the injectors using a light, twisting, pushing motion.
3. Install the fuel rail assembly.
4. Install the injector electrical connectors./
5. Install the fuel filler cap.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON/OFF several times to pressurize the fuel system, then check for leaks.
