Removal

1. Raise vehicle on hoist.





2. Disconnect cable from rear cable connector located along LH frame side rail.
3. Using a 13mm box-end wrench to depress retaining tabs, remove conduit retainer from frame. At rear of LH fender panel, remove screw holding plastic inner fender apron to frame.
4. Pull back fender apron to expose parking brake cable to frame.
5. Pull cable through frame and let it hang in wheel housing.






6. Lower vehicle and, inside passenger compartment, remove the cover of sound deadener from cable at the dash panel. Pull cable until parking brake control take up spring tang is at full clockwise position and insert the fabricated tool between the tang and the mounting bracket. This will aid in disconnecting the cable from the take up reel. Remove cable end from take up reel at parking brake control.

WARNING: KEEP FINGERS AWAY FROM REEL MECHANISM WHILE TOOL IS IN PLACE.





7. Using a 13mm box-end wrench, depress retaining tabs and remove conduit from control assembly.
8. Push cable down through dash panel, and remove cable from inside wheel housing.


Installation


1. Start cable through opening in the dash panel inside passenger compartment.
2. Connect end of cable to parking brake control take up reel. Press tabbed conduit retainer into parking brake control. Install sound deadener cover patch at dash panel.
3. Raise vehicle. Insert cable through frame member toward rear of vehicle. Press tabbed conduit retainer into frame hole.





4. Connect control cable to rear cable connector on LH side frame rail.
5. Remove fabricated tool used to retain take up reel with pliers.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Check operation of parking brake as outlined under Adjustments.
