Two different shift cables are provided for service under the same service part number for the vehicles listed above. The only functional difference between the two is the way they have to be installed to the shifter housing. One of the cables requires a slot in the cable to shifter housing retaining bracket hole. The current design cable attachment is shown in Figure 15 and the optional design cable attachment is shown in Figure 16.

1984 and some 1985 Mark VII vehicles do not have the slot in the cable mounting bracket. Prior model vehicle shifter assemblies can be modified to accept the optional cable design by cutting a 12 mm slot into the cable mounting flange as shown in Figure 17.
